Spring and summer are the time of year when more people suffer from allergies than any other time of the year. Fortunately there ways to reduce the intensity of the allergies with foods- fruits and vegetables. Taking medications is not the only solution. Montclair chiropractor, Dr. Gary Eshanov, advises patients to explore a natural approach to health with both chiropractic treatment and healthy nutrition. Below, is a list of healthy foods to help patients cope with allergies.
1. Citrus Fruits
These include oranges, lemons, grapefruit, lime, etc. Citrus is rich in vitamin C and helps with allergies.
2. Onions and garlic
These contain a compound known as quercitin. Quercitin acts like an antihistamine.
Broccoli is a member of the cruciferous family, contains high amounts of vitamin C and helps to clear blocked sinuses.
Kale is also a member of the cruciferous family, and is rich in carotenoids. Carotenoids are organic pigments that act as anti-oxidants.
Nuts are high in magnesium and vitamin E. Magnesium helps to prevent wheezing, and vitamin E boosts immunity while simultaneously protecting the body from free radicals.
Parsley is said to inhibit the secretion of histamine.
Apples are rich in quercitin, which as stated earlier acts as an antihistamine. The skin of apples also contains a type of antioxidants known as polyphenols, which protect against cellular degeneration.
Dr. Eshanov, (chiropractor, Montclair NJ) advises patients that although there are no known cures for allergies, consuming diets rich in vegetables and fruits greatly helps to control or manage allergies.
