In 2004, a subject group of 192 patients with sub-acute back pain were studied to determine the efficacy of chiropractic manipulation over muscle relaxantst to reduce pain. There were three groups: one group would receive chiropractic manipulation with placebo medicine, 2. another group received muslce relaxants with “sham” manipulation, and 3. the last group- placebo medication with “sham” manipulation.   Upon completion of the study, it was determined that chiropractic was more effective in lowering back pain than muscle relaxants, placebo medications, and more effective than “sham” manipulations.
