What is National Chiropractic Health Month All About?

This month, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) is raising awareness about the ways chiropractic adjustments can be a great form of pain management. It’s a collective effort from chiropractors from across the nation to help people understand the epidemic that is chronic pain, and how those that suffer can find solutions through seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis.

Why is This Important?

It’s important because it’s healthy for us to take a look at non-medicinal remedies for pain management. Pain pills and opioids are not the only way to manage pain, and as the trust in chiropractics continues to rise, we, as chiropractors, believe we should continue to prescribe chiropractic adjustments to those who suffer from chronic pain, rather than extremely addictive prescription pills.

What is The Goal?

The goal is to raise awareness. We want patients to understand that there is a better approach to pain management or to simply realize that they have a healthier choice at all.  We’re calling it “Conservative Care First,” and it takes a common sense approach to prescribing pain management solutions.

The status quo of prescribing potentially addictive treatments to patients is not only unsuccessful but a threat to public health.

What Does This Common Sense Approach Look Like?

The first step is investigating different forms of pain management solutions. From there, we will promote the use of nonpharmacologic prescriptions through evidence. We’ll make an effort to improve the popularity of prescribing these different forms of pain management and work to share these ideas with professionals across the nation. Finally, our efforts will include a public health campaign that raises awareness of the dangers of opioids prescribed for pain management.

Join chiropractors across the country in the effort to raise awareness of nonpharmacological prescriptions by using the hashtag #chiropractic1st.
